Post-5: Mobile Technologies in the Classroom: Week April 13-April 20

Dear All,

Today and in the next couple of classes we are going to discuss with you when and how you can use mobile technologies in your classroom. To introduce you to this topic I'm sharing with you a book written by Agnes Kukulska-Hulme, Lucy Norris and Jim Donohue Mobile pedagogy for English language teaching: a guide for teachers:

Read Chapters 5 A Framework for Mobile Assisted Language Teaching and Learning

Study the diagram A Pedagogical Framework for Mobile Assisted Language Teaching and Learning and be ready to discuss the following questions:

a) What is the role of teacher wisdom on the learning process

b) How do different device features can contribute to the learning process (give an example from your leaning and/or teaching experience

c) How much can learner mobilities contribute to/become an obstacle to the process of learning using mobile devices?

When you design the activities you should always remember to consider the learning outcomes. Read the list of outcomes on page 9 and then about the things you need to consider in the process of designing and carrying out the activities:
  • Inquiry
  • Rehearsal
  • Reflection
At all these stages in the process consider the role of the teacher and the students' involvement.

Also, consider what the use of mobile technology contributes to the learning process.

It'd be great if when discussing this topic you could share examples from your own learning experience
