Post-2: LP-discussion_TED-Talk-on-the-impact-of-texting-on-our-lives

Dear All,

Hope you had a nice 8th of March celebration and are ready to get back to studying.  Today I'd like you to wear two hats and first be students in the ESL classroom discussing your attitudes to texting.

https://eslbrains.com/txtng-is-killing-language-jk/

Next, we are going to discuss it from the point of view of teaching it and consider the following questions:

To complete the activities of this lesson follow the link below:

0. Do you think the topic and content of the lesson will be interesting for your students?

1. What are the lesson's goals and objectives?

2. How are they achieved?

3. Characterise the activities of this lesson from the point of view of
a) how engaging they are

b) what the students will learn as the result of completing the activities of this lesson?

c) what problems (if any) do you think the students can encounter during the lesson?

d) how are you going to deal with these difficulties?

e) are you going to teach the lesson as it is proposed in the lesson plan or will change/add something; if yes, why and how. If no, why again?

(I do not mean that you should necessarily find some of the activities not suitable for your students. I just want to encourage you to try to analyse it from different perspectives).

Comments

  1. Goal: make students concious of the way they use language in texting.

  2. Girls,

    1. Dear Natalia Yurievna,

In my opinion, it is going to be interesting for students of our age to discuss the issue of choosing your life path and how to constitute oneself. It is essential to understand who you are and what you want to do after graduating in order to succeed.

    2. Natalia Yurievna,

Personally, I would be interested in learning more about such platforms as Moodle and Canvas and implementing them in Russian classrooms. Also, it would be great to find out more about online-based open-book testing, and whether it can be used with Russian students.

    3. Natalia Yurievna, would you, please, share with me some pieces of literature on learner autonomy and CALL?

      Thank you. Sincerely, Anastasiia Ovchinnikova

    4. @Angelina: a great suggestion to learn more about these platforms. I'll prepare the materials to do it and we'll have a session or more doing it

    1. Angelina, thanks for sharing the playlist, I'll get acquainted with it for sure. However, I expected that you would also add why these are your favourites among other things.

    2. Actually, I have the same comment about what the other 2 students Nastya and Alice have done, i.e, just shared the links to their favourite clips. What other activities can you suggest so that this lesson will become more useful? What skills can be developed during the lesson in which you can encorporate watching a music clip?
